Youth

Youth Ministry

Our mission at Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church is to develop and strengthen the younger generation of faith leaders.

Scripture asks us to….

  • “Train children in the right way, and when old, they will not stray.” Proverbs 22:6 NRSV
  • “To tell the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might, and the wonders that he has done.” Psalms 78:4 NRSV

We want to do this by…

  • Providing opportunities to serve God through fellowship with one another.
  • Supporting families in passing on the faith to their children.
  • Helping youth build lasting relationships with each other, role models, and mentors.
  • Creating avenues for participation in corporate worship.
  • Providing a safe & loving environment for them to thrive in.
  • Offering opportunities for outreach in the local community and beyond.
  • Teaching the basics of the Christian faith.

Structure of Youth Ministry

  • The governing body of youth ministry is the Faith Formation Committee with guidance and direction proposed from the Youth Ministry Sub-Committee.

Parents: Please complete the OAPC Youth Participant Consent Form - one per participant, and return it to the Church Office.

Sunday School for OAPC Youth is postponed until Fall of 2021.
Middle School: 6th-8th grades (Room #203)
High School: 9th-12th grades (Room #204)

Confirmation -- Confirmation seeks to engage youth in discovering what it means to be a follower of and profess faith in Jesus Christ as well as becoming a member of Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church. We utilize the “We Believe” curriculum from PCUSA to walk through big questions with the youth over the course of the year. This class is offered to youth in 9th grade and meets in Room #202 during the Sunday School hour. The class concludes in the Spring with Confirmation Sunday.

MS & HS Youth are not meeting on Wed. evenings during the summer.
